What are you?

Hi Team,

Last week my wife and I took a seven day Alaskan cruise that lead us to meet some very determined and courageous people who are doing everything they can to live a better lifestyle.

The first person we met that really stood out was our room maid assigned to us for the week. For the sake of her privacy... I will call her Jane instead of her real name.

The first thing we noticed about Jane was her friendly personality with a constant smile on her face. The second thing we discovered was that Jane has a very high work ethic who is totally focused on doing her job to the very best of her ability.

At this point you might be thinking "so what" there are a lot of friendly people who have a great work ethic. Well let me briefly explain why in Jane's case... this is very impressive.

Jane is a young girl in her 20's from a country that has a high rate of poverty. Jane is also married and has a six month old baby. Again... you may be saying "so what" but stick with me a couple more minutes to explain why Jane is one of my heroes.

You see... Jane's husband works on another cruise ship (they have been trying to get on the same ship for months) so they do not get to see each other very often. Their baby is being kept by his mother in their home land while the two work hard to make a living. Jane is hoping to get time off in order to see celebrate her baby's first birthday coming up toward the end of the year.

So in spite of being away from her husband and baby for months at a time.... Jane gets up every day determined to be in a great mood, and do the best job she can in order to qualify for every promotion that may be available to her in the future. She is willing to put all personal needs aside and take care of others needs in order to some day live a better lifestyle.

You and I know many people who will not be inconvenienced for a few hours a week in order to improve their lifestyle. Yet people like Jane will cheerfully and gratefully do it 24/7 for months at a time.

What about you? What are you willing to do in order to live a better lifestyle? Are you willing to find just an hour or two a day to invest in your future? If the Janes of the world can do it to the extreme they are... you can change your lifestyle if you really want to. And yes you really can do it by working just a few additional hours a week. You do not have to walk away from your family and friends for months at a time.

Blessings, Dr. Reg
