What must one do to become a true entrepreneur?
If you want to start a business, what must you do to succeed especially when others are watching you?
Many entrepreneur wannabes have lofty dreams about starting a business. They tell their friends that they want to start a business and enjoy the admiration and glamour for announcing their bold step, but most of the time, the fear looking stupid in front of their friends. They like the right attention but are not willing to humble themselves when their business plans or attitude is put under scrutiny.
Because these wannabes fear looking stupid in front of their friends, they are afraid to take risks. They fear their opinions so much that they don't do anything because they are afraid of making a fool of themselves. At the end of the day, their business ventures fail and they blame the market demand, the business model, the product and everything else other than themselves. This is a very bad attitude and they will never succeed unless they do something about it!
A true entrepreneur is a risk taker. I don't mean a foolhardy risk taker but someone who is willing to take risks and make the best of their mistakes, often making a fool of themselves in the process. Their so called friends would most likely make fun of them and sneer at their persistence. But does that get a true entrepreneur to quit? Of course not. A true entrepreneur is willing to put up with the ridicule because they know that they are fighting for good long-term success. They are willing to sacrifice their short-term dignity for a better future. They endure to the end and get the opportunity to tell those negative friends, ¡°see, I told you I can do it!¡±
When you hang around with negative people who look down on you and make fun of you, you have to stop hanging around these guys. They can't stand seeing you succeed because it would make them look bad. You have to start hanging around positive people because they will give you constructive advice. Don't listen to a critic unless they appreciate your work or your efforts. This is the best way to move forward. Never ever let a negative person steal your dream. Hang around with people who no only share your dream but will encourage you when things are not going smoothly.
A true entrepreneur would make the most of his time by doing market research and making intelligent decisions rather than leaving the fate of their business to nay-sayers. You have to take action expose your plans and ideas to the cold, harsh reality as soon as possible. Only then will you learn from your experiences.
Above all, you must believe in yourself. Trust your gut feeling. Never leave let your future be clouded by doubt. If you keep on waiting until the timing is perfect, it will never come. There is no better time than now because now is the time to act.
